Sunday was all about the Academy Awards. We oood and aahd over all the lovely dresses and hair. This week we are sharing hair how to's straight from the red carpet. One of our favorites of the night was Michelle Williams, we have said it time and time again, she can do no wrong in our eyes! From her short platinum pixie to her gorgeous dress she was perfection! Short hair always begins with a great haircut and then great product.
1. Spray Prep on damp hair. Smooth a pea sized amount of Texture through the hair.
2. Blow dry hair with a vent brush, directing hair in the direction you want it to fall. Brush the bangs forward and curl under with the same vent brush.
3. Rub a small amount of Styling Creme through your hands and smooth through your hair, and voila you are done!

Winter Hair Remedies

Cold weather can do a number on otherwise well-behaved hair. Say farewell to static (and other flat, lifeless symptoms) for good with this salon-tested recipe.

Spray Tonic Lotion on clean, damp hair for added moisture.

Apply Straight Blow Dry and blow dry thoroughly.

Spritz your hairbrush with Does it All for styling without static.
Finish with Shine on Finishing Spray. It will give you nice shine but also help with flyaways, dry looking ends and winter static.

Rainbow Brite

Rainbow brite hair is still all the trend on the red carpet. Kelly Osbourne rocked a lavendar purple hue and Katy Perry chose blue. We think this trend is fun but it's definitely not for the faint in heart. A great way to try this trend is 'chalking' your hair.
Here is a little how to:
Grab some soft chalk (in whatever color you desire), twist the piece of hair you want colored and rub the chalk on it. After you've chalked the piece, use a flat brush and brush out the excess powder. Voila!
A couple tips:
Cover your shoulders with a towel or wear a robe so you don't get the chalk on your clothes. The chalk may get on your clothes throughout the day so wear a dark color or a color similar to the chalk. When you are ready to wash the chalk out brush it out first and then wash, if it won't come out use Sunday shampoo. Good luck!

We love Julianne Hough's simple, luscious, locks. We are obsessed with her natural looking melt and beachy waves, we also love how blunt her ends are (a huge trend right now).
1. Spray Prep and Thickening Hairspray all over hair, roots to ends.

3. Spray Surf Spray on the mids to ends of your hair and lightly wrap the middle of your hair around a large curling iron.
4. Loosen waves with your hands and smooth a dime sized amount of Brilliantine through your ends for shine and to loosen up the waves.

How glam does Kate Beckinsale look with her swept up high ponytail? This would be a great style to do on the day after your wear your hair down and curly.
1. (skip to step #3 if you're starting on second day hair) If you're starting on clean hair, spray your hair all over with Prep, spray Thickening Hairspray on your roots and smooth Grooming Creme through your ends. Blow dry hair upside down until dry.
2. Spray Surf Spray on the ends of your hair and wrap your hair around a curling iron.
3. Back comb the top of your hair and spray with Classic Hairspray.
4. Using your hands smooth your hair into a ponytail on your crown and secure with a hair band. Wrap a piece of hair around the hair band and secure with a bobby pin.
5. Mist hair with Classic hairspray and spray a small mist of Shine Spray on the ponytail. Voila!

Paris Hilton

This week we are sharing hair how-to's from the Grammys on Sunday. We usually don't pay much attention to Paris Hilton these days but we must admit she looked chic and understated on the red carpet which we haven't seen in a long time! This is a great hairstyle to do on dirty hair or when you're in a rush.
1. On dry hair create a deep side part. Pull all your hair behind your right ear and secure with a hair band (if you have bangs leave them out).
2. Back comb your ponytail to give you more to work with and to bulk up your ponytail. Smooth with your hands.
3. Twist into a bun and secure with pins. If you have bangs curl them with a curling iron and you can leave them out or loosely pin them back. Spray all over with Spray de Mode Hairspray.

Adele hair how to

Adele always looks so classic from head to toe. We are obsessed with her red lips, dark eyes and volume volume volume! We also love her subtle blonde melt, it's very subtle but right on trend and not too drastic. Want hair like Adele? Follow these simple steps:
1. On damp hair spray Prep all over hair, Spray Thickening Hairspray from roots to ends and rub a nickel size amount of Styling Creme on roots.
2. Blow dry hair until 80% dry.
3. Section out hair and begin roundbrushing. We like to roundbrush a section about the size of our roundbrush and then leaving the brush in to cool. We recommend owning 8 or more roundbrushes so you can leave them in to cool which will give you mega volume.
4. Once your entire head has roundbrushes in it spray with Classic hairspray and let it cool while you do your makeup.
5. Pull all the brushes out once cooled and shake your hair with your hands. Spray again with Classic hairspray.

We don't usually play favorites but Dianna Agron's hair was by far our favorite of the night! Chic but fun and undone. We are picturing this 'do for a summer night or beach day but it would be equally cute for a night out or to work.
1. You can do this style on second-day hair, if you're starting on clean hair spray Thickening Hairpsray on damp hair and blow dry.
2. Spray Surf Spray all over your hair and scrunch with fingers.
3. Pull hair back loosely back and create a fishtail braid. Twist the braid up and around the head securing with bobby pins.
4. Pull a few pieces of hair out from the neckline and around the face. Spray with Spray de Mode for a little hold.

SAG Awards Amber Heard

We loved Amber Heard's edgy pompadour. Updo's are always great on second day (dirty) hair because the style holds better but you can do them on clean hair as well you just need to use the right products!
1. (Skip to step #2 if your hair is dirty.) Spray damp hair with Thickening Hairspray and smooth a nickel size amount of Bb. Texture through the ends of hair and blow dry completely dry.
2. Spray Hair Powder in hair for grip and to give your hair a more matte look.
3. Backcomb the top/front of your hair, spray with Spray de Mode. Smooth the hair back and starting at the crown french twist the hair down securing with pins as you go. Tuck the ends under and secure with pins. Finish with a mist of Spray de Mode.

SAG Awards Rose Byrne

We loved Rose Byrne's blunt bob and bangs (Zooey Deschanel debuted a longer version of this at the Golden Globes). The most important part of this style is the haircut, make sure you ask your stylist for a blunt long bob with slight layering at the ends.
1. On damp hair spray Prep all over hair, spritz Thickening Spray at your roots and smooth a dime size amount of Grooming Creme through your ends.
2. Blow dry hair until 80% dry, using clips section out hair so you can round brush.
3. Using a medium size roundbrush, blow dry section by section, focus on smoothing the hair and curling under the ends.
4. Smooth a flat iron through hair if needed. Spritz with Shine Spray for extra shine.

1. If you are starting on clean hair spray hair with Styling Lotion and blow dry hair completely dry. If you are starting on second day hair skip to step #2.
2. Comb a quarter-size drop of Bb. Gel through the top and sides of the hair. Create a deep side part.
3. Pull hair into a ponytail at the nape of the neck and secure with a hairband.
4. Wrap piece of hair around the ponytail from the underneath and secure with a pin. At this point you may need to go back with a little Bb. Gel and smooth down all fly aways and stubborn hair. Finish with a little Spray de Mode.

Golden Globes Hair: Zooey Deschanel

Zooey Deschanel looked like a modern Brigitte Bardot with her mega volume and full fringe.
1. Apply a dime size amount of Styling Creme on roots, spray Thickening Hairspray all over hair for volume. Smooth Grooming Creme through the ends of your hair for smooth and polished ends.
2. Blow dry hair upside down until slightly damp.
3. Section out hair with clips and round brush each section. Leave the round brush in the hair until hair cools for extra volume that stays.
4. Spray hair with Spray de Mode. Lightly mist ends with Shine Finishing Spray for extra shine.

Golden Globes Hair: Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen was one of our favorites, a modern Grace Kelly with her retro-modern 'do.
1. Spray Thickening Hairspray all over wet hair. Finger-dry hair using with a blowdrier to create volume.
2. Begin creating different sized “S shaped” waves using a 1" curling iron. Hold the curling iron on a diagonal. The goal is not to crate tight curls but rather beautiful, full waves. Secure each curl in place with a hair pin.
3. Set the entire head with roughly 30 curls and allow to set until cool.
4. Remove the pins and brush hair from the front of the head to the back, creating “S shaped” loose curls. Comb out the hair with a wide tooth comb and then gently spray some Spray de Mode hairspray.

Oh how we love Michelle Williams short locks!
1. First, apply Thickening Hairspray to wet hair and then shape hair with hands to air dry naturally in the direction of the style.
2. Once dry, use hands and a hair dryer directed at the roots to give extra lift at the crown and body throughout.
3. Then apply Styling Wax to give hair a polished finish while smoothing hair into a shape.
4. Adding a simple black headband with jeweled brooch gives a modern spin to this retro look. Push bangs over to the side where the jewel is positioned for a heavy fringe effect.
5. Spray Spray de Mode hairspray to smooth hair down and give hold throughout the night.

3. Use a 1-inch barrel curling iron to touch up the hair’s natural wave.

This updo is one part Bardot, two parts Twiggy for this 2011 take on the bouffant-twist.

1. Divide the hair into two sections, parting it across the back of the head.

2. Tease the top portion of the hair. Spray with Spray de Mode. Place headband.

3. Twist the bottom portion up as you would a French twist. Secure this piece into a knot on the crown, creating the base for a bouffant.

4. Take the top portion of hair and smooth it over the knot, folding the ends seamlessly into the twist. Finish with Spray de Mode.

1. Begin by spritzing dry hair with Surf Spray.
2. Promptly bundle hair into a topknot. Give the bun heat with a blow dryer and a half-hour to form some natural wave and texture.
3. Then let it down and a create a center part.
4. Weave a small braid near your face.
5. Tousle the entire head with your fingers, then place the halo.

Winter Wonderful

We’re already imagining this style on your heads for new years eve, a special occasion or brides (and ourselves).
1. On damp hair, spray Bb. Thickening Hairspray to the root area and ends of hair.
2. Turn head upside down to achieve maximum volume and dry the hair with a blow-dryer, continuously running your fingers through the hair while it is drying.
3. Once the hair is dry, use your fingers to create a very natural part and make sure to keep it soft in appearance.
4. On one side, take a 3-inch section of hair with your fingers and start to turn the section away from the face until it shrinks or twists down towards the scalp. When 50 percent of the hair has been wound down towards the head, add another 3-inch section to what you’re already holding and repeat. Do this until you reach the center of the back of the head, and secure with a few bobby pins. (The volume at the back appears naturally while gathering and twisting sections of the hair.)
5. Repeat this on the other side. Leave any pieces that accidentally fall out as this creates the softness that finishes this fun look so well.
6. Finish with Spray de Mode hairspray for a gentle but effective hold.

One of our favorites! (this is from BHLDN as well). Perfect for the bride picturing an outdoor, candlelit ceremony, inspired by medieval hairstyles. This look has an earthy feel to it, especially when you add the feathered hair piece, but it forms this beautiful halo around the head, which adds drama.

1. On dry hair create a side part and began braiding around the face, starting with hair closest to the hairline and adding to the braid with hair further back on the head. Continue this until finally coming full circle.

2. Secure the tail of the braid into its beginning with a bobby pin.

3. Let the hair cool. Let the hair down and comb through. Start at it with your hands to get right amount of volume and shape.

We discovered BHLDN when it was first launched by Anthropologie a couple years ago. If you haven't been to their website yet, run don't walk! It's a gorgeous wedding site with even more gorgeous wedding dresses and decor. We became even more obsessed when they came out with a collection of wedding day hair, which is also perfect for holiday hair! This week we will feature a hair how to a day, so make sure you keep checking back!
Channeling nightclub coifs from the Roaring Twenties this updo is pure glamour.
1. Start by applying Bb. Gel to wet hair and then draw a side part.
2. Comb hair down across the forehead and then back toward the temple, out toward the cheekbone and then back toward the ear, forming the finger wave that defines the look.
3. Dry the hair with a diffuser. Careful to not undo the finger wave.
4. Braid the ends of your hair and secure the hair into a low side chignon.
5. Tuck a hair clip in the chignon for extra glam. Finish with Spray de Mode.

Voluminous hair was all over the runway this season, 60's retro is definitely back in full force! We love the elegance, sexiness and whimsy of the bouffant that Bottega Veneta sent down the runway. Want to add some texturized glamour to your own fall repertoire? Follow these steps:
1. It's best to start this look on unwashed hair, if you are add some Bb. Hair Powder for to get rid of shine and add texture. If your hair is wet spray hair with Prep and then smooth Bb. Texture through your roots and ends. Blow dry hair completely dry and round brush for volume.
2. Split your hair into two sections using your fingers. The top section will begin behind your ear and move up to the crown. The bottom section will be the remaining hair.
3. Secure the top section off to the side with a clip, brush the bottom section up into a high ponytail and secure with an elastic.
4.. Take the top section and secure the front two inches of hair off to the side. With the remaining strands, tease your hair. Spray with Spray de Mode for lasting hold.
5. Take the separated top section and brush it neatly over the teased portion and towards your ponytail, making sure to smooth out the front and sides as you go.
6. Secure the top section into your ponytail with a generous spray of Spray de Mode. Roll your ponytail and top section under towards your scalp and secure hair up with pins.
7. Smooth your updo with Styling Wax and finish with a little more Spray de Mode!

For the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite holiday styles and how-tos to help you get ready for the holidays. Also keep in mind we have a few Updo Specialists in the salon that would love to help you through all your holiday events! First up is how to recreate Lauren Conrad’s Romantic Twist updo.
1. On damp hair spray Prep all over hair. Smooth Grooming creme through your the middle and ends of your hair for shine and smoothing (this updo would also be awesome to do on second-day hair). Spray Thickening hairspray on roots and ends of hair.
2. Get hair completely dry with a blow drier.
3. Use a 1” curling iron to curl the hair. Spray with Spray de mode while curling.
4. Once the entire head is curled, secure the curls by pinning them in a woven fashion to create a style that looks loose and effortless. Once the style is achieved, lightly spray Spray de Mode for lightweight and soft, yet controlled, hold.

1. On dry hair pull a mohawk section of your hair and leave out. Pull the rest of your hair into a super high pony on your crown with a bungee or elastic.
2. Take the mohawk section of the hair you left out and lightly shake to let a face-framing fringe (bangs) fall.
3. Separate the remaining hair into 2 sections on both sides of the head. One at a time, wrap the sections around the pony. Pin and secure with pins to hide the elastic.

Twist and Shout

Every season, we scour the fashion runways with the hope of spotting brilliant new ‘dos and inspiration. We spotted quite a little gem at the Dolce & Gabbanna show during Milan Fashion Week, where they created a classic twist inspired by Italian actress Sophia Loren. To create the look:
1} Spray Thickening Hairspray to damp hair and rough dry without a brush (to maintain natural texture) until hair is 90 percent dry.
2} Next, apply Styling Wax throughout the front of the hair to enhance natural movement and let it air dry the last 10 percent.
3} Beginning at the nape of the neck and working upwards, backcomb the hair for added texture.
4} Finger comb hair back away from the face and pull hair back into a French twist, securing with bobby pins. Make sure to keep the hair loose around the face (not pulled back too tight), so you can see the natural movement of the hair texture. Finish with Spray de Mode hairspray.

Celebrities were out in full force on the Emmy's red carpet. Here are a few of our favorite 'do's and some simple how-to's to go along with them.

We always love Gwyneth Paltrow's sleek strands.
1} Apply a small amount of Grooming Creme and massage it into damp hair. Blow dry.
2} After the hair is completely dry, part the hair down the middle and divide strands into four sections (sides, crown and nape).
3} Straighten the hair with a flat iron, beginning at the nape and working up toward the crown and sides.
4} To finish and create movement, run some Brilliantine through the hair, scrunching it in to create a slightly lived-in texture.
Nina Dobrev caught our eyes with her loose, romantic waves (a big trend for fall).
1} Spray Prep and then Thickening spray all over hair. Blow dry hair then set with velcro rollers.

2} Take a 1 ¼ inch curling iron and curl hair away from the face.
3} Let hair cool for about 20 minutes and then brush hair off to one side with a boar bristle brush.
4} Spritz the hair with Spray de Mode and then Shine Spray for an all over radiant glow.
Emily Blunt looked soft and feminine with her simple updo.
1} Spray Prep then Thickening Hairspray all over hair. Blow dry hair in different directions for a nice lift at the root.
2} Using a 2inch barrel curling iron, create spiral curls (away from your face) all over and work through fingers.
4} At the base of the neck, create a ponytail. Tease the ponytail and split it in two then twist and wrap the hair like a ballerina bun at the nape of the neck with a nice messy texture.
5} Finish with Spray de Mode hairspray.
Aubrey Plaza's hair was all about old Hollywood glamour.
1} Apply Styling Creme from roots to ends on damp hair. Blow dry loosely with your fingers to create texture and movement.
2} Blow dry the top and front sections using a large round brush to create a sleeker finish around.
3} Starting at the nape of the neck, curl the hair tightly on a 1-inch iron from root to tip. Curl the hair in a corkscrew fashion rather than rolling it under. Leave the ends of the hair out to keep them straight for a modern look.
4} Once all the hair is curled and cooled, run your fingers through to break it up.
5} Style the front over one eye and finish with Spray de Mode hairspray.

It's Fashion Week in New York and we are loving the upcoming trends we have been seeing. Natural wavy texture is still going strong as the top hair trend on the catwalks. We loved the romantic, whirly-waves Band of Outsiders sent down the runway. Here's how you can create this look at home:
1} Divide damp hair into two sections with a straight middle part.
2} Working with one section at a time, twist each section of hair away from the face, while applying Bb. Texture. Continue twisting hair and working in the Texture until the hair is nearly saturated.
3} Hold the twisted section with your fingertips and blow dry the hair until it is completely dry. 4} Pin the twist to the side of the head, creating a large spiral. Leave for several minutes to set. Repeat on the other side of the head.
5} Once the spirals have set, remove pins, allowing the twists fall onto each shoulder. Rake hair with your fingers to create waves. For added texture, scrunch Bb. Brilliantine into waves. Finish with Spray de Mode hairspray.

Demi Lovato's rockin' waves were one of the most talked about 'do's from the MTV VMA's. We have had a lot of requests to put together a hair how-to for this look, so without further ado....
1} Spray damp hair with Bb. Prep and Thickening Hairspray.
2} Blow-dry the hair using a medium-sized round brush.
3} Spray hair with Bb. Does it All (a heat protectant).
4} Using a 1½-inch barrel curling iron, take 2-inch sections and wind the hair around your iron (away from your face).
5} Once you pull each section off the curling iron sray hair again with Spray de Mode hairspray.
6} Continue around the whole head until all the hair has been curled. Gently run your fingers through the hair and finish with a final mist of Spray de Mode.

Kate Spade just released their Fall 2011 campaign and we instantly fell in love with Bryce Dallas Howard. The results are adorable, Bryce looks charming and the ad looks cheery. We are obsessed with her chic, retro beehive which was created by none other than Bumble and bumble's editorial stylist Jimmy Paul. Bryce's ensembles makes us almost wish it were fall already. (Almost.)

The MTV VMA's were fun to watch, if only for the crazy hairstyles and fashion! We weeded through the crazy and found a handful of celebrities who's hair looked lovely, wearable and great trends for fall.
Glammed up side ponytails
Sweep your second-day curls into a side ponytail. Pull a few pieces out around your face and you're good to go!
Volume
We swooned when we saw Adele and her 60's inspired 'do. So lovely.
Dark and Shiny
Dark hair was all the rage. Whether wavy (Katie Holmes) or straight (Kim Kardashian) make sure you're hair shines! Use Bb. Shine Shampoo, Conditioner and Spray to create these looks.
Rainbow Brite Color
Celeb's have been rocking the rainbow color trend for a couple weeks ago. Katy Perry made things fun on the red carpet. If you're leery (like we are) about a full head of color try a few colored extension pieces.

hair how-to: faux bob

We all love long hair but sometimes it's fun to change things up. We created this hair tutorial for those of you with long hair that want to try short hair but without the commitment. Hence the faux bob. Take your hair from this:

(in a few easy steps.)

1} We started with curly (second-day) hair. It gave the faux bob more of a fun, messy, texture but you can definitely start with straight hair as well.
2} Spray hair all over with Spray de Mode hairspray. This will give the hair more hold and grip.
3} Starting in the back of the head, working in sections roll the hair under and up. Pin underneath with pins. Continue doing this all around the head until all your hair is pinned up.
4} Pull a few pieces of hair out around your face (if you have layers). Spray again with Spray de Mode.

hair how-to: classic bun

When it's too hot outside to even look at a blow drier we love being able to throw our hair up but still look chic and pulled together. We loved this high bun on Cassie Scerbo at the Teen Choice Awards. This style will add a few inches to your frame and will show off your face perfectly.

1} We've said it before but when you are pulling your hair up it's better to do it on dirty hair. It will hold better and last longer. If you're starting on dirty hair skip to step #2. If you're starting on clean hair spray Thickening Hairspray all over then blow dry hair completely.
2} Pull hair into a high ponytail (on your crown) and secure with a hairband. Rat your ponytail then twist the hair around itself to form a bun shape. Secure it with bobby pins.
3} Use your hands to smooth the hair into place and finish with Classic Hairspray. A great option for when you're in a hurry or need a cute looking 'do on the fly!
