Bumble South

Last night we had a Surf Spray event at the salon with all the stylists. We learned all about Surf Spray, new ways to use it and products to accompany it. We Surf Spray inspired snacks (gummy worms, sharks, fish, salt water taffy and goldfish crackers, oh my!). We took what we learned and practiced on models.

Beachy Volume by Heather Mcallister and Cambri Christensen. Stylist tip: You can add more Surf Spray the next day to make this look last. Spray it in your hands, rub your palms together and rake your fingers through waves for a messier, broken down finish.

Sexy Definition by Adi Forsman and Brittney Black. Stylist tip: Once hair is dry, add some more Grooming Creme for moister, more flexible texture – it feels like salt water with a little suntan lotion.

Windswept Softness by Ashley Bramwell and Kali Harris.Stylist tip: This is the combo you want to use before heading to the beach or outdoors. Surf Spray for a tousled texture and Styling Balm for moisture, control and UV protection.
Surf Spray is a definite must for this summer!

Party in the USA

At Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, Miley Cyrus made jaws hit the floor. After a recent cut into a shoulder-grazing crop and a refreshed color that transitions from light caramel to soft honey, this tousled style works great for her cut and color. The teased crown gives the style a retro flair while the soft texture keeps everything from looking dated! So grab your teasing comb, curling iron and hairspray, it's time to go retro!
1. On wet hair spray Prep then Thickening Hairspray all over hair. Rub a dim sized amount of Styling Creme on your roots.
2. Blow dry hair upside down until 80% dry. Round brush hair and either leave the brushes in to let set or use hot rollers. While cooling spray hair with Spray de Mode.
3. Once cool pull out rollers/brushes. Backcomb hair at the crown. Spray hair again with Spray de Mode.  Pin It

Cannes Film Festival 2012

The Cannes Film Festival is in full force and you know we have some hair favorites! There's been a lot of retro hair happening in Tinseltown as of late and we love it! Take notes from Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman.

Our red carpet favorite has to be Kristen Dunst. Her wavy blonde hair is perfection with her hot pink dress!

And this messy updo is fun and refreshing .

Don't forget the guys! We've been surprised with all the long locks we saw, very rugged!

Bb. Texture

Down to the nitty-gritty...
1. Made for (and modeled after) the downtown It Girl whose undone hair is styled by the city
2. No need to spend hours faking that second-day, couldn't-care-less mess- this mussing creme only takes a minute.
3. Goes great with Grooming Creme.
4. Bumble and bumble's first glossy magazine ad campaign featured Bb. Editorial Stylist Jimmy Paul using this favorite backstage.
5. For those who want instant gritification and don't mind messing with perfection. Pin It

Bb. Live

In April Karissa and Mik were able to go to a Bumble and bumble Live event in Beverly Hills, California. It was a 3 hour even based on the new Bb. Color Minded collection. Bumble of course far exceeded our expectations with all the little details and we left feeling refreshed and inspired.
Not the best pictures but above is a before picture of a girl they found on the street and below is an after of the same girl! We were amazed!

And a few of the little details...
Cupcakes in the Bb. Color Minded colors.

And drinks to match! So cute! Yet another reason why we love Bumble and bumble so much! Pin It

Met Gala Easy Updo

Cate Blanchett looked gorgeous at the Met Gala this year. With all of her hair off her face her features instantly stole the spotlight. This style is perfect for summer or when you're in a pinch yet you still would look pulled together and chic. We recommend doing this on dirty/second-day hair, it will hold better and it will be easier to get volume.
1. Starting on second-day hair spray Bb. Hair Powder all over hair to reduce oil and achieve volume.
2. Back comb the top and crown of your head. Spray with Spray de Mode.
3. Using your fingers loosely pull all your hair to the nape of your neck and secure with a hairband. If you have shorter bangs or loose pieces secure with pins.
4. Spray all over with Spray de Mode to finish off the style. Pin It

Met Gala Short Hair

Short hair is back and with a vengeance! Celebrities are trading in their long hair and extensions for shorter 'do's and we fully support the trend! Short hair is also surprisingly versatile, style it stick straight, wavy, messy, retro, the list goes on and on. Try a long bob like January Jones or a sexy pixie like Ginnifer Goodwin.

Recipe for Success

You leave the salon with amazing, luscious, locks but we all know it's much easier said then done when it comes to styling your hair the same way at home!
How to get a good blowout
The Brush: It really does matter what kind of brush you use to blow dry your hair, it must be quality! You need a four bristle round brush. At Salon K we use the wooden Spornette brushes and the Bumble and bumble brushes. Also, the brush needs to be big, almost too big. The bigger the brush the bigger the volume.
The Sections: Sometimes it seems like a nuisance to section out your hair but it really makes blow drying it easier and quicker in the long run. It's crucial to section your hair out in as many pieces as possible.
The Dryer: Again, it must be quality. It's hard to spend a pretty penny on an expensive blow dryer but you really will notice a world of a difference! You need the power and the heat. Start at the front (but don't neglect the back) and make sure you are working every section dry. You don't need to start using a brush until your hair is 80% dry. Our favorite brands are Babyliss and Chi.
Straight Hair: Bumble and bumble's Thickening Hairspray and Grooming Creme are a must!
Curly Hair: Thickening Hairspray if you need volume, Straight Blow Dry is a miracle for straightening and Defining Creme if you want to stay curly. Pin It

Emma Stone Updo

Emma Stone looked GORGEOUS at the Met Gala, head to toe she looked very classic vintage. Here's how to get her vintage twist:
1. On damp hair spray Prep and Thickening Spray all over your hair. Blow dry hair upside down until dry (you could also do this style on second day hair and skip to step #2).
2. Back comb hair at your crown and spray with Spray de Mode Hairspray. Part your hair on the side using your fingers, don't worry about making it too perfect.
3. Loosely pull hair back to the middle-back of your head and twist hair up, securing with pins. Leave the top out and let fall over the twist (again don't worry about making it too perfect).
4. Secure two jeweled clips on the side of your head, pull a few pieces of hair our around your face and finish with a spritz of Spray de Mode. Pin It

Met Gala Sleek

We LOVE the Met Gala for the more daring fashion choices and hairstyles then the average red carpet. We saw a lot of sleek do's on the carpet which is perfect for summer. These styles prove you can still look good straight out of the pool, on a bad hair day or when your hair is dirty.
Grab some Bb. Gel and smooth you hair back to tame flyaways and hold unruly pieces (and to create some high shine). Pull it high into a topknot like Kate Bosworth or smooth it at the nape of your neck like Rooney Mara.

Create a deep side part like Gisele Bundchen or part straight down the middle like Gwyneth Paltrow and smooth hair to the nape of your neck and secure with a hair tie. Wrap in a bun and secure with pins. Rub a dime sized amount Bb. Styling Wax through your finger tips and smooth over the top of your hair to smooth flyaways, create shine and light hold. Super easy and you look instantly pulled together!
